Walk-in closet
2025 · Baltic Birch Plywood, hard maple lumber, hard maple drawers, aluminum closet rods
Built-in storage from scratch — Baltic birch carcasses around three walls of the bedroom closet.
The lesson from the playroom shelves was that the “IKEA hack” approach doesn’t actually save much time once you start adding plywood backers, side panels, and trim. For the walk-in closet I started from scratch — Baltic birch carcasses cut to the exact bays, adjustable shelf pin holes throughout, anchored into the wall studs.
The bottom sections on the sides got dovetail drawers from Eagle Woodworking (this part did save time) with hard maple drawer fronts I stained; closet rods and back shelving went in around the rest. The top side sections have shelves but still need doors — that’s the last bit.
It’s been in daily use for a while now, so I’m rocking the in-progress shot. The unfinished closet actually photographs fine.
