Direct seed after last frost in warm soil (65°F+). Pods all mature in a 1-2 week window — harvest when plump but still bright green for edamame. Whole plant comes out together; pick pods at the table.
First edamame attempt. Chiba Green direct-seeded in Bed D for an early-summer single-harvest crop.
Chiba Green is a Japanese edamame variety — early (75-ish days), reliable, eaten whole-pod after a quick blanch. Direct-seeded mid-May once soil hit 65°F. The whole row matures in a tight window; the harvest is more “pull the plant, pick at the table” than a sequence.

Trifoliate leaves (May 24) First true trifoliate leaves on the row. Even spacing — direct seed worked clean for this one.
